Sterility

• Disposable equipment verified for sterility and integrity
• Heat Exchangers Water Leak tested

Pump

• Speed controls operational
• Roller heads engage tubing properly, smooth & quiet rotations
• Biohead Engaged
• Occlusions set and verified
• Flow meter in correct direction and calibrated
• Flow rate indicator correct for patient and/or tubing size
• All Holders secured to posts and cross beams

Electrical

• Power cord(s) securely connected
• Cord in good condition ( no visible damage)
• UPS/Battery Back-up Charged and Operational

Gas Supply

• Gas line checked for kinks and patency
• Flow meter/ blender functional
• Gas exhaust unobstructed
• Vaporizer in working order and full

Circuit and Tubing

• Connections secure
• Tubing direction traced and correct
• No kinks noted
• One-way valve in correct direction
• Circuit De-aired and Pressure/Flow Checked
• Arterial filter Debubbled
• Recirculation Line Checked
• Cardiotomy reservoir vented
• Oxygenator Failure Checklist

Cardioplegia System

• Solutions check for expiration and added substrates
• System De-aired and Pressure Checked
• Connections secure and leak free

Monitoring

• Temperature Probes Connected
• Pressure Monitors Alarms On and Calibrated
• (Optional) Oxygen analyzer calibrated
• Saturation Monitors or Blood Analyzers calibrated

Temperature Control

• Water source connected and functional
• Water baths full

Supplies

• Tubing clamps available
• Drugs available
• Solutions available
• Sampling syringes/ laboratory tubes available

Anticoagulation

• Anticoagulation Controls within calculated parameters
• Warming Block at correct temperature

Emergency equipment

• Hand cranks available
